Project Summary

“Unition” is an idle clicker Game Concept based on the topic of ‘Democracy.’ This concept was designed as a part of application to Cologne Game Lab.

The game starts as building trust and protest against a tyrant to establish democracy. The player can be able to convince members of the society to collect support for them. The game doesn’t end when all the problems are solved, rather it keeps continuing following the process of “Democracy” to face challenges together.

Challenges and Learnings

Democracy is defined as the rule of the people. Every person wants power, support, freedom and stability. Whereas, Democracy inspires people to work together and gain the success as a community. But if the authority gets too much supportive power they turn into autocrats. On the other hand, too less support becomes their reason to fall. So to create a  democratic experience the balance between power and need should be stablished among the people.

The game design is inspired by famous idle-clicker such as – Adventure Capitalist  (Kongegrate), Idle Miner Tycon (Kalibri Games). As a part of the application assignment on “Democracy,” the design is based on democratic process. The design follows by theories in political, psychosocial, and economic aspects of democracy to create an experience for single player, which brings out the collaborative part with the members(NPCs). The game also include sudden events and call for action, to improve player experience. The process is explained in the Design Document.

The design of the system required a lot of parameters to consider. Making the player experience democracy, between protesting against a tyrant and being a tyrant themselves, required a complex flow of gameplay to keep the game stable. Please check the gameplay flowchart for details.

To promote and present the game, I have created some sample UI design. I have also created a story-driven trailer, which helps to pitch the game much more effectively and introduce the game to the players.
